Latah County Jail Roster

The Latah County, Idaho jail roster is a public resource that allows you to find out who is currently in custody at the county jail. LatahCourt.us helps locate publicly available information about current and recently released inmates. Additionally, data can be obtained through the official site of the Latah County Sheriff's Detention Center, by phone, or in person at the facility's reception. The roster search allows citizens to check the custody status of a specific individual, view charges, and booking date. The roster is maintained by the Latah County Sheriff's Office and posted on the detention department's website; data is updated as new bookings and releases are processed.

Search Current Inmates in Latah Jail

There are several ways to find out if a specific person is in custody at the Latah County Jail.

Online Search

  1. Go to LatahCourt.us to search public court and arrest records.
  2. Visit the Latah County Detention Department page — here the sheriff publishes information about inmate contact, mail rules, and jail location.
  3. If the individual has been transferred to the state correctional system, use the Idaho Department of Correction search, which allows searching by last name or IDOC number.

To start the search, you will need the person's full legal name. The booking number speeds up the process if known. The roster webpage typically has a list of inmates that can be browsed manually or filtered using the browser's search function (Ctrl+F). Records of juvenile offenders are not displayed in the public roster.

By Phone

Call the jail directly. The operator can confirm if a specific person is held if you provide the full name and date of birth.

Find Latah Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created when a person is officially registered at the jail after arrest. This is not the same as a court case — booking records the fact of being taken into custody.

During processing, the following data set is formed:

  • Unique booking number
  • Date and time of registration
  • Charges presented
  • Arresting agency (Moscow Police, State Patrol, Sheriff, etc.)
  • Primary identification information of the detainee

Access to these records can be obtained in several ways. The roster on the detention department's website displays bookings of individuals currently in custody. For more detailed information about criminal history — such as arrests in other Idaho counties — contact the Idaho State Police Bureau of Criminal Identification, which maintains a centralized database of arrest records based on fingerprints.

If you need documents not available in the online roster, submit a public records request. Latah County accepts such requests in accordance with Idaho Code § 74-102 through a special online form.

Search the Latah Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

There are two main search methods available on the roster page.

Search by Last Name

Enter the detainee's last name. You can add the first name to narrow the results. Some practical tips:

  • Check the spelling — even one incorrect letter can prevent finding the record.
  • If the system supports partial search, try entering only the first few letters of the last name.
  • For common last names, add the first name or use the browser's Ctrl+F function to search the page.

Search by Booking Number

This is the most accurate method. The booking number is a unique identifier assigned during jail registration. If you have it, enter it in the appropriate field, and the system will return exactly one record.

What to Do If the Search Yields No Results

A lack of results does not necessarily mean the person was not arrested. Possible reasons:

  1. The person has already been released — the roster only shows those currently in custody.
  2. The booking is not yet completed — there may be a few hours between physical arrest and the record appearing in the system.
  3. The name is entered incorrectly, or the person is registered under a different spelling.
  4. The person has been transferred to another facility or the state correctional system.

In such cases, call the jail at (208) 882-2216 and verify the information with the duty officer. To check court cases, use the Idaho Court Data portal, where you can view information about criminal and civil cases in state courts.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Latah

The Latah County inmate roster is updated as changes are made to the jail management system. In practice, this means new bookings appear within a few hours of registration, and records of released individuals disappear shortly after their release. The exact frequency depends on the staff workload and the technical features of the system.

Several limitations should be considered:

  • Delay between arrest and publication. The booking process includes photographing, fingerprinting, and medical examination. Until it is completed, the record will not appear in the roster.
  • The roster is not an archive. Once a person is released, their record is usually deleted. This means the roster only reflects current custody, not the full history of all past arrests.
  • Data entry errors. Sometimes names are entered with errors or under alternative spellings, complicating the search.
  • Juvenile and protected records. Data on individuals under 18 years old, as well as records subject to court restrictions, are not published.

To obtain archival arrest records or records no longer available in the online roster, submit an official public records request to the Latah County Sheriff's Office or through the public records request form on the county's website. Some records may be restricted according to Idaho state privacy laws, so not every request will be fully satisfied.
